Assignment #24 TED Talk: How Photography Connects Us

TED talks are made to inform. Speak about something that affects all people around the globe. Similarly, photography was made to share with everyone. Photographs hold meaning. Each photograph holds a story, containing both emotional background and a physical picture of an event. National Geographic being as valued as it is receives respect for its highly developed and thought-out photographs, rightfully so. Photographs tell the stories of our past. They are visual memories for people to relive each time they look at them. A photograph is meant to be open for interpretation. Not closed on one idea, thought, or feeling, but available to all.

David Griffin, the photo director of the prized company, National Geographic, explains his opinions on the topic of photography. More specifically, Griffin uses images to capture feelings, moments, smiles, and frowns. As the viewer learned from watching the video, photography is a way to tell stories. To share memories. To explain feelings and emotions better than that of words. In my personal opinion, I could not agree more.

I like to consider myself as someone who learns quicker, and, for lack of a better work, easier, by means of visuals rather than auditory or written facts. Being able to comprehend new stories, messages, and meanings from the natural photos captured and released for others to see, is almost magical. One can truly understand both the internal feelings and the external actions that someone or something must have needed to experience within the details and colors of photography. This video is commendable for its deep message that is often overlooked by people. Photography is memories.

  1. Your write up is insightful and thought-provoking. I am more of a visual learner myself (I have to turn off the radio when trying to find my way around directions in the car - too distracting!). Thank you for this...and caring!
